Hrubieszow
Hrubieszów is a city on the Polish-Ukrainian border, located 120 km from Lublin. The history of this old Ruthenian stronghold dates back to the thirteenth century. Since then, it has been a place of Orthodox worship, what was recorded in the Old Ruthenian Hipac Chronicle of the year 1255. Hrubieszow obtained city rights already in 1400. The Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Hrubieszow belongs to the Zamosc deanery of the Lublin – Chelm Orthodox Diocese. It is at least the ninth church in the more than 600-year history of the city. The first mention of an Orthodox church in Hrubieszów is the privilege of Sigismund I the Old from 1510. The Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos is a unique building. It is the only thirteen-dome temple in Poland and one of the few in the world.
